One of the Best Treatments for Low Back Disc Herniations
For years, the time-honored treatment for disc herniations has been to decompress the disc and open
up the joint space. This was done using "traction", meaning to apply opposing pressure to the affected area.
The medical profession used many methods over the years, from full body casts to inversion tables and bedrest.
If a disc herniation is suspected, MRI's or CAT scans may be ordered to diagnose the severity or
categorization of disc herniation(s).
Treatment has come a long way. But only in the manner in which some of these methods are applied, and
some methods are better than others. In a series of Harvard studies, Chiropractic treatment has been proven
to exceed medical treatment in both satisfaction of results as well as faster recovery time. In my office is a table
(pictured above) which achieves the best combination of traction while decompressing the affected disc or
discs. The treatment duration depends on the severity of the herniation(s), and as with any treatment, all
involved tissues and joint function will be addressed.
